July 31 – Day 90   Thomas Bay

Another sunny day!

The guys worked on dinghies this morning.  First Steve's to find out what parts they might need from Petersburg (or Seattle) to fix the engine warning buzzer problem, turned out to be a stuck thermostat.        Then over to Dave's to try to figure out what might have happened. In addition to the bent propeller the lower unit drive shaft sheared.  So, either a new lower unit or a new engine seems to be in the future.

Nelsea and crew left us today for Petersburg as Steve is flying home for meetings tomorrow.

The rest of us have a fairly lazy day.  Mid-afternoon we went ashore over by the forest service cabin for a beach walk.  Talked with a couple from Wisconsin who are there as part of a 17-day kayak trip. Then went over to another beach and walked around there.   I found a large wheel – yard art type. 

It is about 40 inches (maybe more) across and 6 inches thick ---

not that small and very heavy.  It is propped up by an axle of sorts

 

From there we moved over to the river which heads up toward the Patterson Glacier which is a hanging glacier (ends falling off a cliff).

The rest of the late afternoon and evening were for the most part filled with phone calls and contacts with the outside world.   Steve called us to give us an update on Nelsea and crew and said that Brian and Steve from Tonic were in town and they had a nice visit.  We hope to link up with them while in Petersburg.
