July 20 – Day 79 Tracey Cove to Ford’s Terror

July 20 – Day 79   Tracey Cove to Ford's Terror

Another beautiful sunny day.

Headed out early for the run up Endicott Arm.  We need to time our entrance into Fords Terror just right to get the big boats through the narrow and shallow entrance.

There were a good number of large icebergs in the water along the route.   I got some nice shots of the other two boats going past icebergs.

Snowfield – time for our snow angels or ….

Snow Play Day

Very steep and slippery.  Snow was very hard.  Glad we had trekking poles.

360 degree panorama – weird and doesn't do it justice

We sent scouts to explore up-river.

They reported finding bear trails and scat but not steaming, and after crossing the first water outfall, a short distance up was a larger, and wider body of water, they stopped there.

Glen found us a nice back eddy behind a large rock mid river to sit behind

Exploring the left

In the left section of Ford's Terror there were several areas where there had been slides/avalanches  and sections where large trees had snapped off about 20-30 feet from the ground.  This place must we wild in the winter.  There was one boat anchored down that way near the very large meadow area.  Perfect for bear viewing but none there today.  Large hills and rock walls, with a number of waterfalls.  This place is beautiful.

Ice cave carved by water under the ice.  This one is 20-30 feet tall

A great day with sun and fun followed by a Salmon dinner with hot fresh baked bread and Huckleberry Brownies for dessert.   Oh, and glacier ice beverages.

The one of the right had garlic and herbs swirled inside
