July 27 – Day 86 Hobart Bay to Port Houghton

July 27 – Day 86     Hobart Bay to Port Houghton

It rained during the night but seems to be trying to clear up for today.

We are heading in the direction of Petersburg but not at any high rate of speed.   Todays plan is to go to Sandborn Canal which is close to the Halibut fishing spot from yesterday.   The pots were pulled and another dozen or so large prawn to add to the about the same number caught yesterday.  Ok, maybe enough for cocktail hour but not a full dinner for 8 people (Glen doesn't eat them).

Headed out with bluish sky and calm water, which turned gray and misty.

Got there and the guys went fishing.  Catching for Glen, another nice Halibut.  Halibut for dinner tonight.

We all piled into the two Magic shore boats and headed out for our almost daily exploration adventure.  Today's viewing included: mountains, meadows, snow, rivers, waterfalls, and some Eagles, one whale tail, but no other critters.  Many of the trees, appears to be one type are all dying, likely some kind of tree killing bug/beetle. Sad to see so many dead or dying trees, thousands of them.

Where does this lead?  What will we see?  How far will we get before running out of water depth?

I never get tired of watching Eagles

When we got back there were 5-6 large sea lions frolicking by our boats; splashing and having fun.  There likely were some fish that they were tormenting, or they were just having some fun.

Just before dinner Steve and Glen took all of the fish carcasses from the last two days (they had been kept in a bucket – with a lid) over to the beach and spread them on the tops of large rocks.   With the Eagles we've seen we knew that they would come for our carcass buffet.   It took a while for these majestic birds to decide it was safe and drop down from their tree perches and start their evening meal.   It was getting just a bit too dark for photos however.
