July 26 – Day 85      -  Hobart

It's going to be a sunny day! 

The Nelsea crew went fishing and caught some nice Halibut.   They also came back with a large fish story about the one that got away.  Ya, sure ….. but they had photos to prove it.   They had a whopper of a Halibut, likely in the 70+ lb. range not only on the line but at the boat, tied to the boat and with a harpoon in it, when it freaked out and ripped the connections out of the cable on the harpoon and got away.  If it survives and another fisherman catches it they might wonder why it has a harpoon clear through its body. I'm sure Michelle will have a photo of that one in her blog.   They also saw a humpback whale fully breach out of the water twice.  Not sure if they got any photos.

 

After all the fish was processed and in the freezer most of us headed out in the Jet boat to investigate the area.  Went up a river into a lagoon, beautiful.  Then across the lagoon we tried to go up the creek but it was too shallow to get very far.   This area was marshy and clearly was a bird habitat area.

We came back out and continued the exploration.  Found the state dock at Entrance Island which was not in the best of condition, and in the same bay there was a house.  Glen found on a chart that this house was part of a fox farm from years ago.    On another hillside we spotted another house.   Houses out in the middle of no-where?   Someone wants to live or hide off the grid.   There was also a large Alaska State Trooper boat anchored just inside the outer island, near Stephens Passage.

The adventure complete we came back to Magic and started prepping for dinner and an evening of talking with the Storks. 

 

This photo is of Carl Stork enjoying some quiet reading time on the bow of Nelsea while dinner was being prepared.  He was reading the 'Wall Street Journal'.   While he was doing that Steve was on the Sat Phone dealing with business issues back home.  With all the government handouts, employees do not want to work, so it is very hard to run restaurants without staff.  And the staff that are working are feeling over worked, with some actually quitting.  They have already had to lessen the number of hours a day some of their restaurants are open.    This government subsidy situation is not helping businesses and ultimately is harming communities.
