July 17 – Day 76   Swanson to Juneau

 

Up early as usual, the sun is out!  

Glen pulled the prawn and crab pots – humm, one starfish and a couple snails; not so good.   Steve and Michelle had about the same, however they did catch a Halibut this morning.  

We have about a three-hour cruise into Juneau today.  Glen has arranged a rental van for overnight so we can do our errands - Costco run and anything else we might want to do, while in town.

We pulled into Juneau – The harbor is jam packed with boats, so finding space at the dock was interesting.  We ended up on the outside of the breakwater down the dock from the very large 'mega yachts'.  Serengeti (formerly Johnny Carson's), Almost/There (Hollywood FL), Wavelength (sail), Revelry (gray hull from Bloody Bay), Eagle (from Seattle), Moon Doggle (gray blue sailing cat), and another sailing cat (lime green and white hull from Hawaii).  Glen says that the Serengeti is one size too big for us.

Everyone took the bus heading toward town and the rental van.  Rental cars are a premium and scarce so we always try to rent a van, i.e. a U-Haul van sized vehicle.  We got off the bus and started walking to the U-Haul place several blocks down the road.  Glen and Steve were in the lead, and as the rest of the group passed a bar, there was a brief discussion and decision that we'd go in and 'rest with a cool one' and they could pick us up on the way back to the main road.

That evening we went out for dinner.

The bar above the docks was known for its hamburgers.   But their kitchen is no longer operational.  So to get food they bring you menu's from a couple close by restaurants, you make your selections and phone in your order.  We all chose to order from the same place, made the call, and a short time later out meals were delivered from the 1^st floor of the same building.   Huge portions of food; each item could have easily fed two people.  Everyone had leftovers for tomorrows lunch.
