July 16 – Day 75 Swanson Harbor
The fisher people went fishing this morning but came back empty handed. They then went for the Prawn and Crab pots. Keeper counts – Magic = 3 crab and 3 (yes 3) prawn, Nelsea = 7 crab and 0 prawn, Bidarka = 3 crab and 1 Halibut all caught in the crab pot and 0 prawn. Looks like Crab for dinner tonight.
Headed out about noon for Swanson Harbor, not too far away. Oh, and there is a bright ball in the sky that is making everything bright and warmer. I believe it is called the sun.
Just past Hoonah
Hoonah looks like a ghost town. No cruise ships means very little happening. The zip line looks the same. They have added a gondola to take cruise ship passengers from one dock to the other so tourists can get to the museum and the zip line. They are also building a gondola from the shoreline to the top left of the top of the zipline. This will give the tourists some amazing views and also the opportunity to take the zip line down without having the old 40 min bus ride to the top.
We tied to the dock in Swanson Harbor. There are two docks floating in the bay off the beach for visitors use at no charge. There is a nice beach to walk on if one wants to get off the boat for a bit. Our fisher people went out fishing and Glen caught another Halibut – 25 pounder. Processed and in the freezer now.
Swanson Harbor – great view
View of beach and mountains
