Day 18 – June 2nd – Potts Lagoon to Port McNeil
We headed out under a dampish sky cruising up the Cormorant Channel going past Alert Bay and headed for Port McNeil. The plan is to stay in Port McNeil for maybe two nights. Do a little grocery shopping, take on some fuel, and some of the group plan to go golfing tomorrow.
We arrived in Port McNeill at the North Island Marina.
As always the marina staff were wonderful. They were waiting to catch lines, get us tied up, and made sure that we were hooked up to power. Their fuel hoses are very long and come clear out to the boats, which makes that process easy.
All five of our boats took on fuel. The marina was great and since we all were together and getting fuel they gave us a volume discount. Hey, they still made money! Fuel is pricey this year, but it is always higher in Canada. $8.73 Canadian which is $6.81 per US Gallon for Diesel $7.03 for Gas.
Esprit to Four and Lady J two boats we saw up in Alaska a couple times last year were on the dock in Port McNeil when we arrived. They are on their way to Alaska.
The group went into town and did the grocery shopping. Some of the stores have changed hands or changed totally; just say Covid. There is a new brewery with restaurant in town that was recommended by the marina and grocery store people. So, that was where our group went to dinner. Busy place so we had to wait about a 45 minutes for a table. I think everyone had pizza. Good pizza but very ‘different’ combinations. Choices like ‘I’m a fun guy’ – mushrooms, feta, walnuts, plus, ‘Susy Q’ – Brewery BBQ sauce, pulled pork, onions, plus…., ‘Dilly….’ Don’t remember the name but it had lots of pickled items on it. ‘Rueben ….’ Which was corned beef, sauerkraut, pickles, stone ground mustard, horseradish, plus. We had the Rueben, which was pretty good but a little heavy on the mustard. Of course, not being beer drinkers, we did not partake but those that did said the local brew was good.
After dinner it was a bit late so we all went to our respective boats and did our own things. Oh forgot, it was raining.
