Day 16 – May 31st Helmcken Island to Potts Lagoon
During the night the boats bounced around quite a bit, keeping some of the crew awake or waking them up. At one point apparently two cruise ships headed for Alaska went by in Johnstone Strait and their wake came through and hit us tossing the boats around. In the morning we found that apparently Magic and Sea Life bounced around and the two boats rolled together and the top of the gunwale on Sealife got a bit of damage – like a big chip in the fiberglass. It appears that it bounced up high enough to come down in contact with one of Magic’s fender holders and it’s stainless ring. Ouch!
None of the other boats got any damage.
We saw Danny Boy – George and Julie Selfridge’s boat on AIS as it passed headed for Alaska.
We headed out and cruised up Johnstone strait which was definitely flat water. Along the way the group saw one humpback whale and a group of about eight porpoise. No pictures
The cruise to Potts Lagoon was uneventful and we had great water. Once anchored and settled, the guys took the crab and prawn pots out for a soak.
Then it was time to take a dinghy ride into the Lagoon. There were the remains of an old bridge; not much left but at one point there was a bridge made of large logs.
This used to be a bridge
On the way out we saw large nest in a tree top and then moments later an adult eagle landed there. Clearly with food for the chicks in the nest as there was a lot of chirping …. Me, feed me, hey feed me!
Feed Me!
Off to the grocery store again …. Those kids eat a lot!
Later in the afternoon, it was harvest time …. The group count 7 crab and about 80 prawn. So dinner was Crab, Prawn, Bread and salad.
