June 23 – Morning in Lords Pocket – Afternoon in Cannery Cove

 

We woke up to another beautiful sunny day.  Shorts weather for sure, but hopefully those pesky flies will stay away. 

We pulled out and cruised along looking at the snow caped mountain ranges all around us.  Truly beautiful.  

 

As the group moved on we stopped to drop a line off the West Pinta Rocks east of Cape Bendel.  Within about 5 minutes of hitting the bottom Glen said ‘fish on’.  He landed an approx. 35 lb Halibut.  Nice work!     Halibut dinner for 19 tonight.

 

Our protected anchorage for the evening is a simply gorgeous spot.  Snowcapped mountains out front and to the sides and behind us are amazing hills, deep valleys, etc…  The photos don’t do it justice.

Once anchored crab and prawn pots were put out, and some went out fishing.  End result – No one caught any fish, and only Glen got any crab – 2 nice keepers.

 

Not long after anchoring up I saw a drone hovering over us.  I thought Jim was at it again.  But then heard that another guy in the bay on a Hatteras – m/v Viaggio had a drone.   A bit later Trig the owner and captain of Viaggio came over and we chatted for a bit.  He gave me a thumb-drive with the videos that he took of our boats, and a stack of his business cards.  A great guy.  He runs luxury charters out of Petersburg; 6 guests with a crew of 3.   www.viaggiocharters.com   I only wish I could post one of the videos to this blog; he did a great job of showing our boats from the air but also a 360 degree view of the area around us.  If I figure out how to post a video I will.  Below are to screen shots taken from one of the videos.

 

 

 

 

It was 78 degrees this afternoon.  If one could fight off the flies it would be a great day to just sit on the back deck.  Some of the group went out fishing but came back soon saying it was just not a fishing day.  Others went out for dinghy explorations.  Others just lounged around, visiting, reading, playing cards etc….  Michelle had her final exam on baking French Bread.   It’s been several days since I taught her, so today I gave her the exam.  She had to make the bread dough, shape it, put it on the pan ready to raise and go into the oven all by herself on her boat.  Then she was to bring the two loaves on the pans over to my boat, where they would rise and be baked in my big oven.  They looked beautiful and so she passed; Bread 101 - French.  Her next course will be Bread 102 - Sesame Braid.

Dinner was great, Halibut cooked three different ways, rice, green salad, ambrosia salad, capris salad, steamed cabbage, and fresh French bread.  

After dinner many in the group went for dinghy rides looking for bear; none found. Then Willard and Diane came to Magic for another movie night.
