June 30 – Moser Island to Kalinin Bay - Day 61
Low cloud cover and rainy on an off again this morning. Left Moser Island at about noon headed for Kalinin Bay at the end of Kruzof Island about 10 miles north of Sitka. We will be traveling thru Sergius Narrows in Peril Strait, so our departure was timed so that we would reach the narrows a slack tide.
The cabin hidden in the woods.
Critter sightings and seafood harvest – One deer, one sea otter, one seal, gathered Prawn and Crab. Processed and froze most of the Prawn and Crab for future use.
The weather cleared and todays cruise was very smooth and uneventful. Saw a couple whale along the way feeding along the shoreline.
We know we are close to Sitka the Coast Guard are out in force.
Also came across Connor and Kyle two kayakers. Based on their position we think that they were going to turn and head toward Sitka. Glen blasted our horn to say hello, and I took a photo even though they a good distance away heading up the shoreline.
We were turning the other direction toward the ocean. We stopped in Kalinin Bay just inside from the ocean. There are about 12 boats anchored in this bay; 5 in our group. There is supposed to be good Salmon fishing here. Nellie, crew along with the SeaLife crew went out to toss a line before dinner. No Salmon but about 5 large Rock Cod.
Sea Life thought they were in Hawaii ….. except for the wrong kind of trees.
Last island before the open ocean.
Beautiful sunset this evening. Again another amazingly beautiful place.
