June 13 Day 44
Steve needed another beach walk this morning, as he wanted to find that perfect rock, so Glen took him to shore. He found a nice two-tone rock. Glen found me another hard plastic float, this one medium in size and white with Asian writing on it. Nice work Glen! I wonder where this one came from. If it could only talk and tell me where it has been and what it has seen.
Today is moving day again. We are headed to San Lorenzo Island
The sky is sunny and water doable, but it looked better than it felt. Hidden rollers in there I think.
Today view
Saw one whale during the cruise.
San Lorenzo island is known as the place where back in the 1934 the coast guard had stashed a cache of fuel. The price of fish had gone so low that the fisherman could not afford fuel to go fishing. That is until they found the CG stash. They claimed the fuel (salvage rights?), filled their tanks and went fishing. ‘Finders keepers’.
We got ourselves anchored and looked back to see two Jet-Skis go whizzing by Nelsea. Clearly we aren’t too far from Craig; about eleven miles. There was a small boat going back and forth fishing but not catching, and there was also a larger fishing boat anchored a short ways away, likely waiting for the opening of his ‘fishing time’. There was a small ‘cabin’ around the corner which we determined was being used by the fisherman.

Little details on the beach
Steve and Michelle went fishing. Glen, Jane, and I went exploring a couple beaches. Dave stayed back to read and rest. We found some very old metal objects … likely parts of an old stove and sink. Gathered a handful of colored beach worn glass; blue, green, clear with numbers embossed, and an aqua color, and a couple pieces of old blue printed china. There was lots of brown glass but that is not old. Also found an old rusty spike, not a nail but a long thin spike. It is fun to see what you can find. Almost forgot on one beach we found an old ‘sport yak dinghy part buried and filled with sand: perfect for a kids nautical sandbox.
The skies around this island are full of Eagles so the photos will likely switch to birds for a bit. At one point I saw 9 Eagles flying around at once. Some young (not yet with their white feathers), and some adult Bald Eagles with their beautiful white heads and tails. There were also what appeared to be Golden Eagles. Golden’s are a bit larger and do not have the white colors, they are also beautiful.

It started raining about 7pm but by 11 it had mostly cleared and there was a beautiful pink sunset.
