Ocean Falls

May 15 – Okay today should be Ocean Falls

 

Woke up to light sprinkles from the sky. That didn’t last long, but there is low cloud cover today.    No bear viewing was to be had in this bay.   Diane cooked a great breakfast for all of us, that Sea Life Café is great. 

 

 

After breakfast Tom and Glen went out to pull the pots and bring in the harvest …  nice big ones, but not big numbers.  Count was 25 hand size prawn between the pots.  Better than nothing, and they will make a very nice addition to happy hour tonight.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We headed out.  Sea Life and Magic took the scenic route looking for waterfalls and whatever else we could see.  Some of the waterfalls were running with min to medium water, but had evidence of past ragging amounts.  For May 15 it seems like there should be more water coming out of the hills.  Must have not have been a big snowpack this year.

Exploring done, we headed out to catch up with the others.

 

 

 

Made it to Ocean Falls.  Gail Stewart is right the place is pretty much in ruins.  The only people we saw were a couple from near Spokane who keep their boat here (why?), and about 7 loggers who came in after work by helicopter.   They told us that our boats were too nice for this town.

 

We walked around and up to the Link lake above the dam.  It’s sad to see a place in this condition knowing that it once was a going concern with about 5,000 people living here.   Nature is taking over and reclaiming everything.  There are still flowers which obviously were planted by the prior residents.  Iris, Lilies, Lilacs, Rhodies, Roses, a couple fruit trees, and lots of Shasta Daisies.     We picked a bunch of Salmon berries.  I’ll use them in some kind of dessert tonight.
