May 9 – Monday
Beautiful morning. Flat calm water in the bay we stayed in last night. Got up early did some work, yep, it follows me. Glen washed the boat, lots of salt. Leisurely breakfast. The boats that stayed behind yesterday came up and went past us this morning. They had nice flat ‘Lake Johnstone’ water this morning. Willard and Diane slept in, they needed the rest.
Saw our first bear of the season on the beach. He/she was turning over the rocks to get the little crabs etc… Took a few photos but nothing great …. Too far away.
Fran and Jeff saw a Grizzly a few days ago on a beach, so it is definitely bear wake up season. Bears come to the lowland in the spring to eat grass, roots, and shellfish, then go up into the hills for berries, small animals etc… then come back down low in the late summer for salmon.

Started out and had a beautiful cruise all the way to Port McNeil. This is such a pretty area. The mountains still have snow so, rock, water, trees, and snowy mountains ….. Must be the Pacific Northwest.

Pulled into Port McNeil for at least one night maybe two. Pete needs to do some battery work and Glen needs to do some work on our dinghy. Remember he tried to break it the other day.
I’ll have good internet access from the marina so that is good.
We have our 6 boats together, and there are 2 other RHYC boats here as well. Spirit – Patrick and Miriam, and Floating Stones – Brian and Cheryl. So 8 RHYC boats in the marina at once, maybe this qualifies as a club cruise.
Looks like we are having steamed clams for happy hour today; then out to dinner at some steak house. I don’t care, but some of the other ladies want a dinner out tonight as we won’t be able to do that again for a week or two.
