Day 80 – July 29

Sherm and Nancy left for the airport at 5:45am this morning. I was awake but did not get up to see them off. Hey, they were staying with the Miner’s and we’d said our goodbyes late last night.

The Eagles are still perched in their assigned spots in the trees this morning. The sky is gray but it is not raining and it looks like it might clear up.

The Miners plan to do a bit of fishing on their way to Port McNeill where they pick up their next crew members midday tomorrow. We are thinking of going to Double Bay on Hanson Island and skipping the Port McNeill stop.

About 1:30pm Gary from Noon Balloon called us. They are in the Sullivan Bay area and wanted to check out schedule, in hopes of meeting up with us sometime. It was good to hear from them and we’re going to try to talk again tomorrow to try to set up a rendezvous point.

We just meandered along, through two rain squalls, one of which was more like hail. We decided to stop in Port McNeill just long enough to walk around and see the place. As we pulled in we spotted Miners Debt pulling into a slip. The harbor is very full today, with the harbor master turning boats away. She allowed us to tie up to the ‘loading area’ for a couple hours, which was very nice. RHYC members Dave and Janet Robinson of Ashanti were tied to the dock directly across from Tom and Chris. We went out and visited with them for a bit and then headed into town. Went to Gus’s Pub for a burger; good, but still nothing has come close to the ones we had in Pub in the Auke Bay Harbor. Those were the best of the trip to date.
