Day 84 – August 2
It’s Saturday. It is a beautiful sunny day. Summer must be here.
The guys went out and pulled the pots, no crab and about a dozen shrimp. But we also got three what appear to be baby lobster or crawdad. And I mean baby. We did the photo op and then set them free to grow up. One of the locals told us that some years ago some group (he implied fisheries or governmental group) deposited a large number of Lobsters into this area in hopes of getting a lobster habitat established. They made mistake of forgetting to remove the bans from the claws before letting them go. Therefore very very few survived.
Oh and speaking of fishing, Tom ran into a friend from Gig Harbor here in Echo Bay that has been stopped by the Fishing Police 2-3 times. Naughty Naughty! Upon hearing that Tom reviewed his paperwork and was reminded that he did not have a Salmon license in Canada. Ooops. Okay Tom now you have an excuse for not catching anything.
Tonight we will be attending the Echo Bay Pig Roast. It’s a pirate theme, so we have to practice our ‘Argh, Ahoy there matey’ talk before dinner time.
We tried several times last evening and today but so far we have not been able to connect to the internet. So much for Echo Bay’s internet system. Talking to others on the dock, very few have actually gotten on and people are frustrated. The harbor is full, so there should be a good turn out for dinner tonight. There are four RHYC boats here and we’ve staked out an RHYC table so we can all sit together. Maybe we’ll call this the RHYC North Colors cruise. And no, I will not be jumping into the water here.
We know that many of our RHYC friends are in Roche Harbor this weekend for the official Colors cruise. We trust that they are all having a great time – Cajun style. In honor of the RHYC colors cruise, I’ve made a potato dish that we’re taking to the pig roast tonight with Cajun Spices.
Today has been another baking day for me, 5 loaves of bread, and some cookies. I made loaves for Prime Time, Seventh Wave, and Noon Balloon.
No this doesn't really say 181. I really haven't baked that many loaves yet. :)
The pig roast dinner was a lot of fun. We had 10 people at our RHYC table complete with
burgee. Glen (of course) jumped at the chance to help Pierre lift the pig off the spit.
There were 165 people at the roast; about 80 more than were expected. Needless to say there was not much of the pig left at the end, but nobody went away hungry. There were lots and lots of side dishes provided by the attendees. The Miners provided our table with official pirate ‘Blueberry Lemon Drops’; hum – not sure the pirates of times gone by ever drank those, but I bet that Johnny Depp and his band of merry men would have enjoyed them.
The pork was great. Merlyn really enjoyed it but didn’t like seeing the pig’s cute face.
Ray was admiring one female pirate and we caught him ‘chatting’ with her. He was saying something about if she was the Captain of the Pirate Ship, he thought it would be okay to be boarded. 
A short time later two pirates were seen fighting over Sue.
In RHYC Colors tradition we jumped. Notice I didn’t say into the water.
After dinner all the RHYC’ers went back to Magic and we talked about and watched photos from the Alaskan adventure. It is always fun to share time with friends.
Echo Bay was great fun. We will be back!
