Day 13 - May 28 -  Octopus Islands

 

Woke up early to a sunny sky.  Shorts weather.   We’ve had some cold days and nights but maybe just maybe summer is coming after all.   

According to Glen our plans today include a dinghy or jet boat adventure and likely a hike.   We could use a hike for some exercise.  The hike was beautiful but somewhat exhausting for some of us.  We hiked over to ‘Small Inlet’ off of Kanish Bay, and then up to Newton Lake.  Most of the trail was well traveled but over roots, logs, with quite a few small creeks and muddy patches to cross.  The last mile to the lake had quite the elevation gain …. Read that as steep.  There were switchbacks, rock falls, and another larger creek to cross.

On the way back to the larger boats we decided to stop in at the Octopus Islands Museum.   For those who have not been there, it is a cabin on a private island that is covered inside and out with creations provided by boaters. 

 

 

 

These signs and artsy creations commemorate the visits by boaters.   We did not find our signs from previous years, but we did spot some from friends.   The RHYC 2014 ‘on the move cruise’ sign or better stated group of signs were still there.   We also saw art from Steel Tiger and Escargot Too.   

 

Of course my hip and then back did their things and each step was painful.  By the time we got back to the boats I could barely walk.  Everyone enjoyed refreshing cocktails, well except me.  My cocktail was of a more medicinal kind.

 

The group dinner was a combination of  fresh Prawn, Clams, Oysters, Salad, Pasta, and French bread.    No crab yet.

 

Travel plans were made for tomorrow with Kotare leaving about 7am to get a head start as they travel slower, and for the rest of us to leave about 9am headed for Helmcken Island.

Kotare decided to pull out of our raft (they were tied in the middle) and anchor separately for the night to not wake everyone in the morning when they pulled out.   They anchored a short distance out front.

After dinner some read and others watched some videos.
