Day 2 – May 17th La Conner to Roche Harbor
Pulled out of La Conner about 9am and went up to Cap Sante – Anacortes ($5.56) to top off with fuel. $0.50 cheaper than La Conner, and $0.74 cheaper than Roche.
The plan was to go to Jones Island but after hearing a wind/weather report for tomorrow we decided to go to Roche Harbor and stay on a dock. Predictions are 40-45 knot winds; not my idea of good traveling or anchoring weather. Along the route we came across Kotare and they were headed to the Seattle YC outstation at Henry Island, which is right across from Roche. So, we planned to meet up with them at some point in the afternoon. We pulled into Roche about 1:30pm. We plan to stay here two nights. The marina is pretty empty. There is an OA (Ocean Alexander – same type of boat as ours) this weekend in the harbor. We’ve never been to one but we won’t be staying for this one.
Craig and Ann Wilbour – friends from RHYC came into the marina shortly after us. They will be staying for two nights and are on their way to Alaska.
We went over to Henry Is to visit Linda and Mike. While there we took a walk over to the new Boudreaux house next door to the SYC outstation on Henry. Allen and Sue were not home but their new house looks great. The newly planted lawn is growing and perimeter fencing is just about done. Comfy looking chairs on the porch which wraps around two sides of the house, perfect to watch the harbor and sunrises. It appears they got exactly what they dreamed of when they designed that house. I should have taken a picture.
Critter count – 1 Eagle, Cormorants, a hoard of Herons, a herd of kayakers (Glen says they are critters)
