Day 3 – Roche Harbor – CAN YOU SAY WIND?

 

 

Gale flag was the only one flying most of the day

 

Wild day of sun, wind, and waves.   The marina has their Gale Force Winds Flag flying and it stood straight out much of the day.  There were 3 plus foot waves in outer harbor.  NOT LIZ WATER.   The house on the point just inside the harbor, the one with docks and about 6 boats ---- well lets see one of the dock piers appeared to break away, two of their power stanchions broke off, three of the boats broke mooring lines.  Everything was jumping and bouncing around like toys in a bathtub full of kids. 

So, what did Glen do?   He went for a jet boat ride.  He left the harbor and went around Pearl Island then over to visit Linda and Mike at SYC on Henry Island.   The SYC docks were fairly protected.  The waves on the outside of Pearl Island were reported to be like 4 footers.   Glen is crazy!   I’m sure glad I did not go with him, but then I am not ‘that crazy’. 

The boat across the dock from us had their three radio antennas which were ‘zip tied’ break loose and come crashing down onto our roof.  No damage but made a lot of noise when they hit.  Glen just went out and resecured them onto their home boat.

I stayed inside and worked on projects.

 

 

The weather calmed 'a bit' about dinner time and we all went up to McMillians for dinner.

After dinner we went out and watched the lowering of the flags.  The team had a significant amount of trouble trying to fold the US flag as the wind kept trying to unfold it. 

 

Flags down,  Linda and Mike headed back to Henry Island, and we went down the dock to visit the Wilbours.  They are headed to Alaska so we exchanged stories about adventures in Alaska.  They have been before and will have a great trip again this year.
