Prince Rupert

Day 13 – May 23

I woke up early this morning (5am); moon was out but thick fog everywhere. By 5:10 the fog was starting to lift, so started taking pictures of the changes in the sky; very interesting. By 6:30am we had sunshine and the promise of a much nicer day. Yippee! About 7:30 Tom and Glen were up and about. Four more keepers (crab) in the pot.

Tom tried his hand at fishing off the back of the boat again this morning. He’d better stick to crabbing and shrimping. He seems to like catching fish by their tails. Fresh bait fish now onboard.

Tom and Glen decided that they had to check out the rapids/waterfall again and see if they could get up into the lagoon one last time. No luck the tide was too low, or the falls too tall. Lots of foam on the water below the falls. This is caused by the tannin rich fresh water and salt water mixing. Glen evidently decided that taking a couple spins in the foam would be fun. Luckily Tom had a camera and thus has this activity on video. He came back to Magic with not only the dinghy but himself covered with foam. Just like a little kid and a puddle, he just couldn’t resist. Look at Tom’s blog for more photos of the ‘Boys with their toys’.

2:00pm as were pulling into Prince Rupert Glen’s cell phone beeps indicating he has service finally. We are now about 700 miles north of Seattle. The sun is shining the air is cool. We will be taking on fuel here and trying to get caught up on phone calls, and internet activity. Tom and Chris are about ½ mile behind us. Glen kicked it up a notch to get through the swells. He knows just how much I like swells… not!

It is reportedly quite windy out in Dixon Entrance; they are predicting gale force winds, and according to the locals this means 9 foot waves. I don’t think I’d like that at all! So we are staying the night here at the Prince Rupert yacht club. It was a beautiful day and sunny warm evening. I could get used to this!

We hope that there is a change in the weather and if so, will try to head out tomorrow morning.
