Kumealon Bay

Day 12 - May 22
10:20 am pulling anchor and heading out. Went for a dinghy ride and the bear was out again this morning. It has been a very cold morning. Forecast is for winds today.

Traveled up Grenville channel, Magic took a brief side trip into Baker Inlet. Very narrow inlet which widens out to large bay. As Glen would say, more trees, waterfalls, and water. The entrance made for some great photos.

About 1:45pm Chris got connectivity again and called Nicole for us. She and Maryann (Glen’s sister) have their airline tickets, Shawn is still discussing dates. It will be fun to have them with us.

Entered Kumealon Bay going past a logging operation base just as a Helicopter set down on top of the boarding house (on a 130 foot boat). Set anchor in Kumealon Bay for the evening. It looks like a good place to investigate in the dinghy. It’s been a gray cold day but not as windy as predicted. It started to sprinkle just after we got the anchor down. Stopped about 15 minutes later but stayed gray until about 9pm when the sky cleared and we saw sunshine.

Before dinner we went thru the rapids and up into the lagoon for the daily dinghy cruise. Sat out in the lagoon and watched the Heli-Logging operations for a bit. They take the logs from the hillside and down to a “road” by helicopter one log/tree at a time. Took some pictures.

Fresh cracked crab for dinner, yummy! Another bear sighting, this one looks to be brown so might be a grizzly. Tom and Chris went out in kayaks to see how close they could get and take some photos. When they came back he said that it was a big bear.
