5/25 We're in!
Glen got up early and we headed
out. He attempted to let me sleep but as
soon as the engines (just a mere wall away) started, I woke up. Awake I thought I might as well go up
topside.
The crossing was definitely
'Liz Water!' as flat as flat can be, with only a few swells now and then.
The Alaskan Ferry passed us mid
way across. They had been behind us for
a while and then called to tell us that they would be passing us and not
changing course. No problem for any of
us. Tom and Dave changed course a
little. Tonnage always wins out.
It was such a smooth crossing
that I baked a raw apple cake. Hey, it
was either that or eat 4 apples before going to customs.
Pulled into Ketchikan about
3:30pm (Seattle time) 2:30 Alaska time and went to the fuel dock. We'd called customs and they met us at the
fuel dock. The easiest customs check
ever. Glen had called the Bar Harbor
harbormaster and got slip assignments for all 5 of our boats. Talked to Linda Jung on the phone and they
are on their boat in the same harbor a dock or two over and will be anxiously
awaiting our arrival. About 5pm (Alaska
time now) all are at the dock.
Finally all 6 boats back in the
same place. Peter, Dean, and Marilyn
hopped in their dinghy and came over to greet us as we were all getting tied up
and settled.
The rest of the day and evening
was filled with relaxing and visiting with friends.
