Happy Birthday Shawn!     Can't believe he is 31, where did the time go.

We got up early and headed right out.  Heading to Ketchikan to enable Pete and Dean to get back to working in the yard to get Rendezvous back in shape to continue the trip.  It will have a new shaft, rudders, and prop as well as some bottom fiberglass work when they are finished.  We had planned on dropping them off and going somewhere else for one more night before heading into Ketchikan for a night before I head out to Denver for my meetings, but the weather looks like it is going to turn wet.   So decision was made to go to Ketchikan and stay two nights to enable the group to do some sight-seeing and get some things done.

In route we saw off in the distance but closer to Miner Debt and Panacea a whale full breach about four times and then do a bunch of tail slapping.   Too far away for photos from Magic, plus someone forgot to recharge the camera battery.     Tom and Chris did not see any of this display, and Dave and Mary saw the tail action but not the breaching; to bad they might have gotten some good photos.

Magic dropped off her crew of visitors in Bar Harbor marina (where they had left their car) then headed to the fuel dock and on to Thomas basin.  We are docked in Thomas basin, right in down town, by the cruise ships (4 in town today), and in the area of lots of bigger fishing boats.   Creek Street is less than a block away.  Grocery store is about 2 blocks.   Once secured the Mehlum's, and Miner's joined us for a sight-seeing and shopping which started with lunch at a local Irish Pub.  An Irish Pub seemed odd to me in Ketchikan but whatever the food was eaten just the same.   We then headed on to Creek street and through town.   I found another wooden vase which will find a new home in Edmonds. 

Back to the boats and met up with the Jung gang for cocktails and boat repair update.  They were whooped from their days work so they headed back to their hotel.   The rest of us went back into town and found a Chinese restaurant for dinner.    

It has been a lot of fun having Pete and Linda Jung and Dean W. on board Magic for the weekend.   It was good to see them relax and have some fun.   Glen is guessing that their repairs will take another week or more.  Schedules were compared so that when they are back in the water they can head in the right direction to find the group again.  Radio contact is sometimes sketchy with all the tall hills and the back bays that we seem to like to play in.
