Ketchikan

May 26 - Ketchikan

Got up and Linda J. drove us up to the grocery store (A&P Market   much better produce than the Safeway closer to the docks), and beverage store right next door.  Restocked with fresh eats and drinks.  Glen was eager to head out of town; he wants to get bad to exploring.  Since we slowed down a couple days due to weather he only has 9 days to explore this next section and get me back to Ketchikan so I can fly to Denver for meetings.

5:30pm Reflections and Magic at anchor and stern tied to shore at  Carp Island, in Shenan Arm of Misty Fiords .   This area is reported to be some of the most beautiful in SE Alaska.   It is also reported that it gets an average of 1/2 inch of rain per day.   Ya have to have precip to make things green, snow capped, and full of waterfalls.   There is so much fresh water coming off the hills that the surface current is always running out even when the tide is running in.

We were here only about 10 minutes and Glen sees a whale in full breach just a short distance away.  We jumped into the dinghy and scooted over to the other side of the bay with camera in hand in hopes of getting a shot or two.   Got a couple not so good shots.  Could not really identify the type of whale but not Orca or Humpback.

Crab pots down.

Dinner tonight was with the Miner's and Nelson's on Nelsea.  Watched a DVD of Whales taken by friends up here in 2004.
