11 - Dock party at the El Capitan Caves
We
had a great dock party. Moved tables
out and had dinner. Then put out the
Nelson's 'firepit' and had a marshmallow roast and campfire. Our boats were tied on three sides of the
dock and we called it our 'wagon wheel' north.
Great fun.
June
12 - Sarkar Bay
Scheduled
to take the hike and tour through the caves today, then head out toward Sarkar
bay. Tour is scheduled for two groups, one at noon and one at 2:30pm.
Forest
Service staff did not show up at noon.
At about 2:00pm they came down and told us we could not use their dock
for our group as they needed to keep it open for the cave tours. We said 'well we have been waiting all day
for our tours, which were scheduled for noon and 2:30pm. All was immediately ok. Apparently the office did not tell the staff
that they had any tours today. They
ended up taking 11 of us at once. The
Miner's decided not to go this year.
Great tour, lead by two geology majors who were in love with rocks gave
the tour and so now we know a lot more about rocks. LOL
After
the tour we had a quick Margarita with the tour guides (one from Minnesota and
one from New York) on the dock and then untied and headed out, headed for
Sarkar Bay.
Anchored
in Sarkar bay in the same place we did in 2008; at the end of the bay, and just
down from the El Capitan Fishing Lodge.
Had a another great dinner on Nelsea.
June
13 -
Sarkar Bay
Played
around in the morning, some went fishing, checked crab and shrimp pots, some
tried to fish up in the lake ... looking for trout. End result a couple dozen , no crab, no
fish. Glen, Dean, and I tried to go up the river as
far as we could but the tide was low so could not even get to the bridge. We used
the left over fish (cod) for fish tacos at lunch with Nelson's. After lunch the armada headed out for Heceta
Island. Dean is cooking beef stew for
dinner and I am baking sesame wheat braid bread. It's a domestic day on Magic.
