Mound Bay to Port McNeil

May 13th 

Jung's, Mehlum's, and Collier's pulled out early this morning headed for Port McNeil, in need of some mechanical assistance.    Nelson's, and Miner's stayed with us at Port Harvey for a few more hours and then headed out.   Glen and I stopped in Lagoon Cove just to say hello and get Glen a fishing license.  Two boats there for the night.  Boat traffic has been slow so far this year.   Lots of new photos on the board outside the office. I took photos of the photos ..... okay that is likely cheating but whatever.   I'll post some to the blog later. Bill the guy that was the main shrimper at Lagoon and provided the nightly shrimp feasts passed away in April, very sad; but the will continue the nightly shrimp feeds on the docks this summer.


We cruised for a bit and stopped at Mound Bay for the evening and night.   Tom and Glen put a crab 

pot and prawn pot down.   Bagged 1 crab and 5 shrimp, not the best job but they are true to form as 'non hunter/gatherers'.    Had a joint dinner on Magic, grilled steaks, salad, fresh asparagus, and mashed potatoes.   Oh and the shellfish eaters (not Glen) each had a lovely grilled prawn placed neatly on top of our steak.   Had our first movie night of the trip aboard Magic watched 'Flight'  ...  not at all what we expected.   Then off to bed.

May 14th

Of course I was up early, can't seem to get the hang of sleeping in.   Worked on some ski patrol stuff on the computer, and read a bit.  Heard a very weird noise that sounded like a pump running, looked all over could not find the problem.  Got Glen to come up and look around, he couldn't figure it out either.  Decided that it might be coming from Nelsea (Nelson's boat), so I went outside to check and/or tell them to check.  Stepped outside and found the source.  Michelle was on the back of their boat on her bicycle (in a stationary stand) peddling away.   LOL   Steve said that he wanted to figure out a way to hook her up to the batteries so she could recharge them.   

Tom tried his hand at fishing ..... he still can't catch anything.  LOL   Here is this mornings catch.

 

Mid morning Tom saw a black bear on the beach behind our boats, not too far away.  But by the time he told the rest of us the critter was walking down the beach and over the rocks.  I tried to take some photos but they likely just look like black spots on a shoreline.   Glen took Chris out in the dinghy and they were able to find the bear on the other side of the point, Chris got a couple good photos.   

We pulled anchor and headed for Port McNeil arriving about 1pm.   The cruising waters on this trip have been great so far.   I haven't even worn my Relief Band a couple days, which says a lot.  The weather is gray and drizzly, with a bit of a breeze again today.   Fueled up and then got a slip for the night.  We will do a bit of shopping and exploring in town this afternoon.  Conference call this evening for me and while I did that Glen helped Tom install a new water heater as his bit the dust the other day, so he had a new one flown in from Seattle.    

All 14 of us went out to dinner at the local pub, then back to the Nelson's boat for dessert.  9:30pm back aboard Magic.  The wind has kicked up and it is really cold outside ... feels like winter.   Glen's gone below to watch a movie and I'm working on the blog and a few other projects before turning in for the night.  The plan is to pull out and head north in the morning.
