Day 28 – June 7
Tom and Chris got here this morning. While they did their shopping for fresh supplies etc… we hung around on the dock visiting with the other boaters. Several people came in and cleaned their freshly caught salmon; 20 – 30 lbs each. Even so, we are told that the water is several degrees colder this year and the salmon are not coming in from the ocean so there are less to catch. One of the gill netters told us it didn’t pay to even put his nets down so he was just sport fishing to fill his smoker.
The boat behind us ‘R-Time’ from Bremerton Yacht Club had an adorable husky on board. Yes Huskies can be called adorable when they are only a 7 pound full grown miniature. There were several Shepard/Wolf mixed dogs on the dock and in town which dwarfed almost any dog, they were huge.
Left Wrangle and went to Saint Johns Bay. Books say that this is the best anchorage around. There must not be much else around because it was a relatively un-protected anchorage. The guys scouted for a while before they picked our spot. It’s popularity is because it is the closest bay to the entrance of Wrangle Narrows, if your going to wait for the best time to pass through like the 3 other boats that came in later.
Dinghies down and the boys set the pots, and Tom tried fishing off the back of the boat. He caught one fish, and was a very happy and hungry man, photos prove it.
